GUWAHATI, Dec 23?Altogether 149 Bishnupriya Manipuri language teachers of the Barak valley districts will be regularised with immediate effect. This was assured by the executive director of Sarba Siksha Abhijan (SSA), Assam, P K Tiwari to a delegation of the Bishnupriya Manipuris who met him recently, stated a release. The delegation was constituted of various organisations like the BMLESDC, BMSS, NBMSU, BMGSP and the BMLTA.
As regards the development of textbooks in Bishnupriya Manipuri language, training of teachers and release of TLM grant to these teachers, the Executive Director, SSA, Assam assured the delegates that necessary steps will be taken within the framework of SSA norms.
Meanwhile, a Bishnupriya Manpuri born Assamese writer and the author of the book Ramayanar Para Sharaighatoloi ( A study of India and the North east: the Ramayanar to the battle of Saraighat) Bidhan Sinha in a memorandum to the Chief Minister Tarun Ch Gogoi (recommended and forwarded by Swarat Barkatoki , ex-Minister and MLA-Sonari, Pranab Gogoi, MLA, Sibsagar and Paniram Rabha, MLA, Barama, and Manilal Gowala, MLA Patherkandi) urged the Chief Minister to withdraw all the cases pending against the satyagrahis of the Bishnupriya Manipuri language movement in which Sudeshna Sinha of Kachubari of Karimganj district became a ?Swahid? in the police firing of 1996 at Kalkalighat.
Mentionably Pramodini Sinha, Dipankar Sinha, Kamla Kanta Sinha, Bikash Sinha, Namita Sinha, Pratap Sinha, Arun Kr Sinha and Ratna Sinha sustained bullet injuries during the rail roko andolan organised by the Nikhil Bishnupriya Manipuri Students Union (NBMSU). Bidhan Sinah also appealed to the CM to provide financial aid and government jobs to all the satyagrahis of the said language movement. Kanak Sen Deka newly elected Asam Sahitya Sabha president, also asked the CM for justice to the victims.
