1683 regulars among 2581 employees to be sacked in Manipur

IMPHAL, March 24: Among the 2581 state government employees to be retrenched as part of downsizing the state government by the People's Front ministry led by Radhabinod Koijam are 548 regular employees of the Autonomous District Council (ADC). According to a reliable source, all the employees of the ADC were appointed as direct regular posts. Mention may be made here that all the 2581 state government employees were appointed as regular, die-in-harness, part-time, contract, ad hoc and casual employees during April 19, 1999 - March 31 this year. Besides the employees of the ADC, 280 employees of IFCD, 240 of Education (S), 196 of state Power Department, 156 of Medical, 105 Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, 94 of PHED, 91 of Co-operation were also listed among the 2581 employees. The other employees to be removed from their respective posts including 86 of Commerce and Industry, 77 of Food and Civil Supplies, 63 of PWD, 58 of Revenue Department, 59 of Education (U), 47 of Family Welfare, 40 of Social Welfare, 34 of Forest, 30 of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, 28 of PSU, 25 of Directorate of Settlement, 24 of Agriculture, 21 of Fisheries, 19 of Transport, 16 of Information and Public Relations, 12 of Economics and Statistics, 11 each from Youth Affairs and Sports, Treasury and SCERT, 10 each from Adult Education and Minor Irrigation, 9 each from Directorate of Craftsmen and Training, Arts and Culture, 8 each from Environment and Ecology Wing, Government Press and Technical Education, 7 each from Tourism and Planning, 5 from Sericulture, 2 each from District and Session Judge, Town Planning, Employment Exchange, MAHUD, Science and Technology, Labour and MPSC, and one from Law. Most of the employees who are to be removed from their posts belong to the direct appointments. Directly appointed regular employees are about 1683, the source added.
