TURA, May 27 ? The NCP-led Executive Committee (EC) headed by Edmund K Sangma in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) was dealt a severe blow when two of its new members withdrew support on the grounds that the EC was playing dirty politics by denying the new MDC from Kharkutta his rights as a member. The two MDCs, Hedrick A Sangma of Siju constituency in South Garo Hills and Lithindro D Sangma, withdrew their support alleging that the EC had deliberately and wrongfully distributed the work orders of the GHADC?s Rural Development Scheme allotted to the Kharkutta GHADC constituency without the consent of the new MDC, Mody Sangma, who happens to be from the Opposition Congress. In spite of the declaration of results to the Kharkutta by-election in which Congress candidate Mody Sangma emerged victorious, the Council authorities were allegedly stalling the oath-taking ceremony. The two MDCs termed the moves of the EC as injustice inflicted on the new MDC. The Chairman?s prolonged absence clearly indicates his intention to defame the new MDC and his attitude is to invalidate the identity of the newly clected member, stated the two MDC. The two MDCs, who withdrew support had only a month ago joined the NCP in the presence of PA Sangma at the NCP district committee annual meet in Selsella, after leaving the Congress.
