AGARTALA, Feb 8 ? Forty-eight polling stations in West Tripura district have been identified as hyper sensitive. Superintendent of Police (West) Anurag speaking to reporters said, 119 other booths have been identified as sensitive and step have been taken to ensure free and fair polls in all these stations.
Overall there are 1155 polling stations in West Tripura district. The sensitive booths fall under Simna (10), Mandai (3), Mohanpur (2), Takarjala (4), Golaghati (1), Charilam (1), Ashrambari (4), Pramodenagar (3), Kalyanpur (2), Krishnapur (15) and Teliamura (3). Anurag said, as a preventive measure before the elections, the West Tripura police had arrested 291 persons, recovered two 9mm pistols with eight rounds, one magazine of AK series rifles with three rounds and executed 75 warrants after the notification was issued on January 31 last.
For peaceful conduct of polls in West Tripura district, 27 CRPF companies will be deployed shortly to add to the existing 25 companies mainly for polling purpose.
?Apart from this, three companies of BSF and 3000 civil police will also be deployed to perform election duties,? Anurag pointed out. However, the Assam Rifles and few columns of army will continue to perform regular anti-insurgency operations at militant infected areas. On elite Tripura State Rifles (TSR), he said ?they will continue their regular anti-insurgency operations at the insurgency prone areas,? adding that two personal body guards will be provided to each candidate and the respective police stations will provide additional security to the candidates in case they visit the vulnerable areas. West Tripura police will also have control over the security of 11 booths of Krishnapur in Dhalai district.
