5 ultras surrender in Tripura

AGARTALA, April 26 ? Five militants ? four belonging to banned ATTF and one of Nayanbashi faction of NLFT formally surrendered before the Assam Rifles yesterday. The ATTF militants disillusioned and fed up with bloodshed, fled from their Satcheri camp and surrendered. The formal surrender today took place at Abhicharan under Sidhai police station where the militants laid down arms before the 11 battalion Assam Rifles commanding officer Col. Amit Sharma. The militants ? Nagendra Debbarma, Parasuram Debbarma, Rajin Debbarma and Ranjit Debbarma (all ATTF) and Mangal Debbarma (NLFT-Nayanbashi) laid down one AK-56, two .22 pistols, daggers and incriminating documents. While the four ATTF militants came from their Satcherri base camp, the NLFT extremist came from a hideout located at Chunarughat area. The militants said some political leaders belonging to ruling CPM and opposition INPT frequently visit their camps at Bangladesh. They also gave away the names of the leaders who used to visit the militant camps across the border while talking to the reporters. ?We are fed up with the bloodshed. We no more believe in independent Tripura. What we are now doing is only killing our own men,? said Ranjit Debbarma. He said many more militants in their bases in Bangladesh are ready to surrender. ?All of them are dissillusioned but problem is that they cannot surrender without arms since then they would not get the rehabilitation package. But then to escape with arms from the camp is a dangerous bid.?
