6 candidates in fray for Inner Manipur

IMPHAL, April 10 – With the rejection of the nomination papers of two candidates, altogether six candidates will be fighting it out for the Inner Manipur Parliamentary constituency in the ensuing 14th Lok Sabha elections. The nomination papers of Lairenlakpam Raghumani and Waikhonm Manimohon, both independent candidates, were rejected during scrutiny on Thursday. The two had failed to provide some of the mandatory information in their nomination papers, officials sources said.

The six candidates who are now to contest the Inner seat are former deputy chief minister Dr Leishangthem Chandramani of the Federal Party of Manipur (FPM), sitting MP Thounaojam Chaoba of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Art and Culture Minister with the ruling Secular Progressive Front (SPF) government Dr Moirangthem Nara of the Communist Party of India (CPI) and Higher and Technical Education Minister Dr T Meinya of the Indian National Congress (INC), besides the two independent candidates —Nongmaithem Homendra and Nongmaithem Iboyaima.

Meanwhile, an election-related control room has been set up by the Manipur police department at the 1st Manipur Rifles campus.Election- related details can be obtained through the control room’s telephone numbers 2228246, 2228114 and 2228127. Polling will be held on April 20 and 26.
