TURA, Feb 13?The final tally of Thursday?s polling for GHADC election has been officially put at 66.15 per cent in the three districts of Garo Hills. South Garo Hills recorded the highest turnout of voters, 67.75 per cent, followed closely behind by West Garo Hills, 65 percent, and East Garo Hills 63.70 per cent. Barring Tura constituency others recorded high turnout ov voters crossing the sixty percent mark.
Tura had the lowest turnout of approximately 33 percent followed behind by Williamnagar constituency in East Garo Hills which recorded 56 percent. The extremely low turnout of voters in Tura constituency has been attributed to the bomb blast that occured in Tura market on the eve of polling.
Although Tura had the lowest turnout the district as a whole made up for the high percentage of polling. The highest turnouts were in the plain belt areas of the district where voters were found waiting to cast their votes in a long queue. Phulbari and Rajabala areas were examples where voter turnout was extremely large.
In South Garo Hills, Siju recorded 64.81 per cent, Wagesik 66.44 per cent, Silkigre 69.16 percent, Rongrikimgre 65.83 per cent, Gasuapara 67.51 per cent. In East Garo Hills Kharkutta recorded 62 per cent, Samandagre 68 percent, Darugre 65 percent, Williamnagar 56 per cent, Rongrong 61.11 per cent, Bolsong 69.15 per cent, and Damas 64.63 per cent of polling. Polling took place without any untoward incidents taking place in any of the three districts of Garo Hills. All polling parties safely arrived at their district headquarters by late Thursday night accompanied by security forces.
