69 people killed by insurgents in Tripura this year

AGARTALA, Dec 15 ? Altogether 69 people were killed and 59 injured by the insurgents of different outfits while 54 hardcore ultras were eliminated by security forces in Tripura in the past 11 months, Assembly was informed on Monday.

Replying to a question of the leader of the Opposition, Ratan Lal Nath, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said the casualties occurred in the 179 incidents of insurgent attacks in different parts of Tripura in past one year.

Eighty-three civilians have been kidnapped by the different outfits like National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF), our of which 40 returned home safely.

About 43 abducted persons are still missing, Sarkar said, adding security forces continued their operations to secure early release of these innocent civilians.

On the ongoing counter-insurgency operation across the state, Sarkar said, security forces killed 54 hardcore militants of different outfits in encounters. About 88 insurgents and their collaborators have been apprehended by the security forces during the counter-insurgency operations while about 200 ultras have surrendered.

Chief Minister said his government would welcome if any insurgent group come forward to hold talks to restore peace in the state. However, he maintained that security forces would continue its pro-active role against the insurgent groups to ensure peace and harmony.
