AIZAWL, May 8 ? Altogether 97 candidates were left in the fray for the 23-member Lai Autonomus District Council (LADC) elections to be held on May 16, reports PTI. While 27 candidates withdrew their nominations, papers of two candidates were rejected after scrutiny on Monday, Mizoram district council affairs department officials said. He Lalbiakzauva of the ruling Mizo National Front was declared elected unopposed from Lungtian constituency. The MNF is contesting all the 23 seats while the Congress fielded candidates in 21 constituencies. Lai People?s Party (LPP) is contesting in a 14 seats, the BJP in 12 constituencies and Mizoram People?s Conference is trying its luck in seven seats. The rest are Independent candidates, some of who are supported by opposition parties like the Congress and the MPC. LADC is the largest among the three autonomous district councils in the State.
