AAPSU puts off agitation

ITANAGAR, February: 16: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union today put off its ongoing agitation for two months against the ruling Congress government in the state to fulfill its five-point charter of demands. "The decision to this effect was taken at a crucial general council meeting of the apex students' body held here on Thursday in view of the forthcoming central board of secondary examination and State Board examination", AAPSU president, Nabam Jollaw said in a press note. 'The students' body would continue its agitations till its goals are achieved" Jallow said, adding,' because students have given us mandate in yesterday's meeting that they would support any nature of bandh after expiry of another two months period'. On October 2, the students' body has asked the State government, the state government to provide Rs 100 crore to the department of education for development of basic infrastructures facilities, 100 per cent job reservation policy in all categories for Arunachal Pradesh scheduled tribes and subsequent holding of examinations for recruitment of junior doctors, reduction of sales tax, deletion of Yobin from Scheduled Tribes lists, re-concentration of Tibetan refugees to their camps, solutions to long pending Chakma and Hajong refugee imbroglio and gross influx of Bangladeshi infiltrators in the State. Meanwhile, the AAPSU has reiterated the immediate termination of Toko Babu, magistrate in charge of Yachuli, in Lower Subansiri district, who opened fire on a class six student with his .22 rifle during the fourth phase of AAPSU sponsored bandh across the State. The students body demanded a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the victim.
