AASU demands 100-hr truce with ULFA

NALBARI, Aug 24 ? The All Assam Students? Union (AASU) has warned the militant outfit ULFA to use gun by the mind and not by the fingers which has resulted in the Dhemaji like situation in Assam. The AASU can?t tolerate the killings of innocent people, schoolchildren in the name of ULFA?s independent Assam.

Talking to The Assam Tribune, the AASU chief Prabin Boro, who came to Nalbari to attend a citizen meeting said that ULFA should realize that they also have been using the masses as a shield like the innocent children who were killed on the independence day function in Dhemaji. The Assamese people have been suffering a lot for sheltering and providing food to ULFA, Boro added. ?The ULFA leaders before going to make Assam Independent, should first free it from the clutches of Bangladeshi national which has posed a serious threat to its sovereignty. ULFA don?t need to fight, it will gain independence by Bangladesh within a decade,? the AASU chief said.

Boro demanded the Government to declare a hundred hour unilateral ceasefire to create an atmosphere to bring ULFA to negotiation table. He also requested the ULFA to cooperate if the Government comes forward with such an offer. However, he cautioned that the Government should declare it before a fortnight. ?If both the sides expressed willingness, AASU will create public opinion in favour of holding dialogue,? Boro assured. He also cautioned that in this process if the ULFA declined to respond to the Government call, then the Assamese people will definitely decide the fate of ULFA.
