AASU willing to mediate in Govt-ULFA talks

NALBARI, Dec 23— Assam Assam Students’ Union (AASU) president Prabin Bodo today reiterated its willingness to mediate the ULFA-Government talks in the interest of a lasting peace and normalcy in the State. Talking to The Assam Tribune here, the AASU chief said, ‘‘If any side of the Government and the banned outfit ULFA want, we are ready to consider the mediation of the talk only in the interest of the greater Assamese nation.’’ Bodo further stated that in the crucial moment of the Assamese nation when most of the small communities have been raising demand for separation, the leaders of ULFA should deeply consider the negotiation with the Government. For that the AASU president has called upon the Government to take initiative to create a situation of faith. He, however, admitted, ‘‘We see no initiative in the Government side for the talk to earn positive response from the outfit.’’ Bodo also called upon the ULFA to come forward for the negotiation to bring a solution to the insurgency problem in the State. Voicing concern against personal voluntary mediator in the crucial ULFA-Government talks the AASU president urged upon the Government to take the organisations into confidence.
