GUWAHATI, April 4– The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has started a new campaign to woo the new generation of voters by launching its own website www.agpassam.org here today. The website contains the history of the regional party, aims and objectives of the party, achievements of the AGP governments in the State including steps taken for economic development, profiles of the candidates contesting in the ensuing polls, profiles of the leaders of the party and its legislators, etc. The election manifesto of the party, which was released yesterday, is also available on the website.
AGP spokesman Jagadish Bhuyan said that it is a new method to reach out to the people not only of Assam, but also of other parts. He said that the website has a special column where anyone interested in the party and its development can offer their suggestions. The membership form of the party is also available on the site and interested persons can download the same to get membership of the regional party.
Bhuyan pointed out that Internet facility is now available even in the rural areas and the AGP is hoping to reach out to the common people through the site. He also pointed out that the manifesto of the party cannot be distributed to all sections of people, but the same is available on the site and any interested person can go through the same to know about the programmes of the party.
Meanwhile, the AGP is planning to add another new scheme to woo the voters. Bhuyan said that the party would release an audio cassette tomorrow. The cassette will consist a speech by the president Brindaban Goswami, recitation of poems by noted poet Birinchi Bhattacharya, etc. The cassette will be played in the election meetings of the party and the same will also be distributed among crosssections of people of Assam, said the party spokesman.
