AGSP releases list of 26 candidates

GUWAHATI, April 22: The Asom Gana Sangram Parishad (AGSP)- a constituent of the five-party Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) has decided to field its candidates in 28 Legislative Assembly constituencies (LACs) for the ensuing Assembly polls in the State and the names of candidates for 26 LACs were released today by party president Jatindra Kumar Borgohain at a press conference here at the party office. The candidates are: Dilip Sarkar (No 32 Bongaigaon), Kamaleswar Medhi (No 46 Sarukshetri), Satyabrata Kalita (No 56 Kamalpur), Hiranya Choudhury (No 57 Rangiya), Prabin Deka (No 65 Kalaigaon), Jayanta Kumar Barua (No 73 Tezpur), Lakshikanta Mahanta (No 80 Morigaon), Minu Bora (No 84 Batadraba), Kanak Hazarika (No 89 Kaliabor), Haren Hazarika (No 103 Amguri), Bhadreswar Buragohain (No 105 Mahmara), Gunakanta Barthakur (No 106 Sonari), Tapan Sarma Baruah (No 116 Dibrugarh), Karunjyoti Saikia (No 118 Duliajan), Santanu Das (No 126 Sadiya), Surendra Nath Bora (No 93 Bokakhat), Anjan Goswami (No 72 Borsola), Narayan Mahanta (No 71 Dhekiajuli), Dipti Kumar Barua (No 87 Barhampur), Tarini Kalita (No 53 Guwahati East), Binoy Kumar Tamuli (No 54 Guwahati West), Harichandra Das (No 55 Hajo), Ratikanta Bora (No 108 Sivasagar), Manindra Das (No 43 Barpeta) and Manoj Das for No 33 Bijni LAC. Among the other three LACs AGSP has decided to support Puroshottam Doley of Mishing Memang Kebang (MMK) for the No 99 Majuli constituency while for the No 79 Jagiroad LAC it would extend its support to a RDA candidate. Besides, while the party is yet to finalise the nominee out of the two contenders, Bharati Barua and Milan Chetia for the No 122 Tinsukia LAC both of them have been asked to file nomination papers for which tomorrow is the last date. Borgohain informed that till date the RDA has decided to field candidates for 105 LACs for the polls out of which AGSP would be having 'friendly contest' in 10 LACs. In the remaining seats it would support RDA candidates and in those LACs where RDA would not field its nominees it would extend its support to like-minded candidates with proven record of keeping a comfortable distance from Congress, BJP and also AGP. The party would fight the polls on the issues of stopping of 'secret killings', employment generation, unconditional talks with the ultras among others. Borgohain also released the party's election manifesto on the occasion.
