Amguri Gas Project; Construction works to begin soon : Pradip

SIVASAGAR, February 26: The construction work for the installation of the proposed gas-based power project at Amguri under the economic development clause of the historic Assam Accord, 1985 will begin soon, disclosed Minister of Transport and Food and Civil Supplies Pradip Hazarika at a press conference held at Amguri Inspection Bunglow recently. He said that to facilitate installation of the project, all necessary documents have been completed. Strongly refuting the allegation, the reopening of the question of installation of the project on the eve of the ensuing Assembly election is a political stratagem of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), Hazarika said that it was an election game-plan of a section of Opposition political parties to mislead the people. He asserted that the AGP had no intention to make any political gain from the proposed project which was going to be set up for the all-round development of the State. Hazarika lamented that in the Assembly election of 1991, the AGP government was replaced by the Congress(I) government but the new government did nothing for the installation of the project. However, during the second spell of the AGP government in the State beginning from 1996, Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta once again took the initiative for installation of the project. The Minister further said that the ASEB has already invited tenders from the intending firms for installation of the project but as sufficient number of tenders have not been received the last date for submission of tenders has been extended from February 15 to March 26 next.
