GOLAGHAT, February 13: In Dhansiri sub-division within Golaghat district many ancient relics, ruins and monuments have been recovered within the last five years but unfortunately, the artifacts recovered in Rengma, Nagojuri Khonikar, Alisinga Duboroini, Kochubeel areas are lying encared for by the Archeological Department of Assam Government. The Archeological Department undertook excavation works at Barpathar Duboroini area in 1994 and in 1996 the department excavated and recovered old statues and inscriptions. The local people have appealed to the State Government to take measures to preserve the artifacts, but the concerned authority has paid no need to it. Meanwhile, an old brick-built house was recently recovered in Kochubeel area within Nambor reserve forest. The Dhansiri Archeological Anusandhan and preservation Sammittee claimed that this brick house was built during the rule of Bushundhar a Kochari king who ruled in 5th and 6th century. Till now a total of 42 small and big maidams have also been recovered around the Kochubeel area of Dhansiri sub-division. In 1984 a Sun statue was recovered in this area and now the people have been worshipping it daily, but still it is not properly managed. In Kochubeel, a big tank in 'U' shape was recovered two years ago. But this area has been occupied by encroachers.
