GUWAHATI, July 11? In a sensational case of theft, a large number of antique jewellery were stolen from the museum of the Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra last night. The jewellery include gold-plated and silver ornaments like gamkharu, thuria, dugdugi, etc dating back to the Ahom age. More than their price value in the market it is the antique value which is much more significant. Additional SP (City) Rana Bhuyan said that the theft which took place last night, was discovered at about 8.30 this morning. Police suspect that the burglar concealed himself inside a large empty wardrobe in the museum the day before. Police has not ruled out the possibility of involvement of Kalakshetra staff in the theft.
