Arunachal elephant population on the rise

ITANAGAR, March 11: Elephant census which has started in Arunachal Pradesh will be completed by March 20, official sources said, reports UNI. The population of elephants has gone up in the State considerably. Out of an estimated 2,700 panchyderms throughout the State, 527 are found in Pakhui Wildlife Sanctuary in East Kameng district alone. Of late, wild elephants are creating havoc in the State, specially in the foothill areas, claiming several human lives, besides damaging crops and human dwellings. Meanwhile, villagers of Seijosa area are demanding declaring one wild elephant as rogue and her killings. They said that the animal had killed two persons and injured as many.
