Arunachal files fresh petition in SC over eviction row

ITANAGAR, June 11 ? The Arunachal Pradesh Government has filed a fresh petition in the Supreme Court seeking restraint on the evictions carried out by the Assam officials in various areas of the disputed portions of Assam-Arunachal border, reports PTI. Takam Sanjoy, Minister for Education and the spokesman of the Government in a statement on Monday said that more than 40 families have been affected in the wake of recent eviction carried out by the Assam Government officials. School buildings, transformers, water tanks, electricity facility and even houses of the teachers and villagers were not spared, he said. The Supreme Court?s intervention has been sought since the matter is subjudice and a case regarding solutions to Assam-Arunachal border dispute pending before the SC. ?The Assam officials have also been advised that since the boundary issue is pending before the Supreme Court in a suit filed by the Government of Assam, it would not be proper to pre-judge the issue by acting in the disputed areas disturbing the status quo, Sanjoy said in his statement. Sanjoy said that the areas affected are lower Jummi and Bello under Kimin administrative circle. Meanwhile, at a high-level official meeting chaired by the Chief Minister Mukut Mithi on June 7 reviewed the situation and announced a relief of Rs 11,80,000 to the victims of the recent eviction of Assam officials, the statement said.
