ITANAGAR, Feb 20 — Arunachal Pradesh government has taken up with the Defence Ministry to strengthening road communication along McMahon line in view of the ongoing massive infrastructural development across the border in China, reports PTI. “Security of the country should be the utmost consideration,” said Takam Sanjoy, government spokesman and education minister of Arunachal Pradesh, which has about 1500 km international border with China.
Development of the state’s border area could not be ignored in view of its “strategically sensitive” nature and Arunachal Pradesh government had drawn the Centre’s attention to the problem on different occasions, he told mediapersons here on Wednesday. The situation was compounded by the rising unemployment in the state and “certain elements inimical to the unity and integrity of the country were posing a threat to our society.” The Centre could consider raising a regiment to enroll the youth of the state belonging to various ethnical groups, he said.
About the recent Cabinet meeting, Sanjoy said it had approved Arunachal Pradesh Local Authorities Prohibition of Defection Bill-2003, which would be placed before the assembly during the current session for adoption in tune with 10th schedule of Defection Law with inclusion of local bodies. The meeting also approved the new tourism policy to develop tourism in the state.
