Arunachal House adopts 6th Schedule resolution

ITANAGAR, Feb 17 ?Arunachal Pradesh Assembly unanimously adopted a government resolution for inclusion of the State in the Sixth Schedule so as to enable it to create Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) in militant-dominated Tirap and Chanlang districts, besides Tawang and West Kameng districts affected by 1962 Chinese aggression.

The resolution was moved on Monday by Home Minister L Wanglat who said the ADCs would have special status and all districts could benefit from it.

?Under the 1945 regulation we will be given absolute power and lot of problems facing the state would be solved,? he said. Two ADCs have been envisaged ? one comprising Tirap and Changlang and the other Tawang and West Kameng.

Chief Minister Gegong Apang said the proposed ADCs would supplement his government's efforts for all-round development of these areas. The Leader of the Opposition and former Chief Minister Mukut Mithi and some other Opposition Congress members, while supporting the resolution, expressed apprehension that creation of ADCs would hardly solve the problem of those districts.

Besides, the move would divide the people as those in other parts of the state would demand similar ADCs in their respective districts. Earlier, the house witnessed an uproarious scene when Governor V C Pande started reading his inaugural address.
