Arunachal prepares for panchayat polls

ITANAGAR, Jan 25? Arunachal Pradesh is getting ready to hold panchayat elections within a couple of months and te state Election Commission would annonce the dates soon, Chief Minister Mukut Mithi said here Saturday, reports PTI. Talking to newsmen after the Cabinet expansion ceremony at Rajbhavan, Mithi said the Government has already provided Rs 4.5 crore to the state Election Commission towards preparations to conduct the election as early as possible. J M Tangu a former commissioner of the state, has been appointed as chairman of the state Election Commission.

The delimitation of the three-tier Panchayat Raj system and also 33 per cent reservation for women were in progress and anti defection ordinance in panchayati raj may be issued in due course of time, Mithi said. He also said the State Government would work out a priority list of 29 panchayat subjects for develution of power to the panchayat bodies for which training for capacity building and management among the rural masses has already begun. The main objective and thrust would be given on economic development and social justice, he added.
