ITANAGAR, Dec 19 — Arunachal Pradesh education minister Takam Sanjoy had assured the handicapped persons of the state that the government would do its best to look after their welfare and also try to implement the Disability Act 1995 enacted by the Government of India, reports PTI. Sanjoy said this while speaking at a function here Tuesday in connection with World Disabled Day celebration which was sponsored by Department of Social Welfare, Women and Child Development and jointly organised by All-Arunachal Pradesh Handicapped Welfare Society (AAPHWS), Tassar Mangha Charitable Society and Donyi Polo Mission School for the hearing impaired. Sanjoy exhorted the disabled persons to be optimistic about their capabilities and not to be disheartened for their physical shortcomings. Sanjay Tasser, chairman of Tassac Mangha Charitable Society and secretary of Donyi Polo Mission lauded AAPHWS for the activities undertaken by it under chairmanship of Tami Taniang. Tangiang presented a memorandum to Takam Sanjoy demanding appointment of a state Commissioner (disabilities), implementation of Disability Act 1995, three per cent job reservation for the handicapped, allotment of land for physically handicapped persons and 10 per cent of MP’s Local Area Development Fund and MLA Assembly Development fund be earmarked for the welfare of disabled. ‘D Malo, director, Social Welfare, Women and Child Development also spoke on the occasion.
