Assam Rifles camp attacked by ATTF ultras

AGARTALA, Feb 13 – In a daredevil attempt, banned All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) militants attacked an Assam Rifles camp last evening at Ratanpur in West Tripura district. Heavy retaliation on the part of the Assam Rifles jawans forced the insurgents to retreat after about 50 minutes of fierce shoot out. No casualty has been reported. Assam Rifles sources said two big groups of ATTF militants armed with huge fire power and sophisticated weapons attacked the Ratanpur camp of the 11 Battalion Assam Rifles in Khowai subdivision at around 6 pm in the evening. “The militants opened fusillade of firing from automatics and lobbed grenades. Preliminary reports indicate that they might have also fired two-inch mortars to break the camp fortification,” says an Assam Rifles officer. As the jawans returned fire and kept the militants engaged, reinforcement was rushed to the spot. After about 50 minutes of gun battle the rebels fled. It is learnt that dreaded ATTF militants Suman Debbarma and Bimal Debbarma led the groups. Though no one was killed in the encounter, one Assam Rifles jawan was injured. A massive search operation has been launched to hunt down the fleeing militants. BSF has also been alerted. The AR camp is located about 5 km from Indo-Bangla border.
