Assam scheme to generate self-employment potential

GUWAHATI, March 1: Implementation of the state government's ambitious scheme to provide self-employment opportunities to the unemployed youths, got under-way with the formation of the special district-level cells headed by the Deputy Commissioners to monitor the implementation. An official release said here today that altogether 6,38,977 educated unemployed youths of the State, between 18 to 40 years of age, would be provided self employment opportunities under the Chief Minister's Self Employment scheme. The scheme will cover areas like agriculture, rural development, village industries, handloom, handicrafts, small tea gardens, tourism, transport, public distribution system, fisheries, veterinary etc. The release said that the special cells headed by the Deputy Commissioners, would be entrusted with the job of making the people aware of the scheme and to identify the schemes. Under the scheme, the state government will provide 25 per cent of the money as the margin money, while the balance amount will be provided as loan by the banks. As the first phase of the implementation of the scheme, 100 unemployed youths from each district will be selected as the beneficiaries within March 10.
