Austria to invest in State tourism

GUWAHATI, May 27? The Austrian Ambassador to India, Dr Herbert Traxl, has said that Assam has immense potential to develop its tourism. During his two-day visit to the city on May 25 and 26, he also evinced a keen interest to explore investment opportunities in the State?s tourism section. This can be a very encouraging news for the State because Austria is renowned for its expertise in ropeways and ice-skiing. With Austrian participation, tourism in the State on particular and the North-east in general can expect a major facelift. Dr. Traxl who was here to gather first-hand knowledge on the State?s tourism potential, had discussions with Emily Choudhury, the State Tourism Commissioner. He was accompanied by his wife Shovana Narayan Traxl, noted Kathak exponent. During their stay in the city, the couple visited the Kamakhya temple, Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra, and Madan Kamdev which is famous for its archaeological ruins of the 10th and 12th century AD. They also enjoyed a one-hour cruise on the Brahmaputra on board the Jolporee. The Kalakshetra organised a cultural function in their honour, highlighting the unique cultural heritage of the State and the North-east. Assam Tourism played host to the couple during their stay here. In the May 27 issue of The Assam Tribune, Dr Traxl was wrongly mentioned as the Australian Ambassador and Shovana Traxl?s name was misspelt as Shovana. The errors are regretted.
