Ban on Bira at no one's behest says KYKL(O)

Imphal, February 12: The underground KYKL(O), has clarified that its campaign against the MSCP candidate Th Bira, contesting in the Nambol constituency is not at the behest of any political group. The outfit, in a statement, reiterated it had nothing whatsoever to do with Indian elections, and the campaign against Bira has not been taken up at the behest of any of his rivals. It further said its actions were part of its crusade to stop the anti-revolutionary and anti-people activities of Th Chaoba, state Lok Sabha MP and Bira's younger brother. The KYKL(O) also claimed responsibility for the shooting of Elangbam Shyamchand of Kabowakching and Leishangthem Nabadwip of Nambol on February 6 and 7. It said they had been punished for hoisting flags at their residences in support of Bira despite the KYKL's proscription. Stating that more severe action could have been taken against the two, it said only mild punishment has been awarded as the two men were only sacrificial lambs of Chaoba. It said the shootings were a warning to others of Chaoba's supporters. The statement stressed there has been no change in its resolve to oppose Bira's election. It further maintained that the party abided strictly by its ideology and principles and all actions were taken after due consideration.
