BDR's bid to change border by force unjustified : BSF

NEW DELHI, April 24: The BSF on Monday night said it was "not justified" for Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) to change the status of the Indo-Bangla border by "using force" as the matter was pending before the Governments of the two countries, reports PTI. In a statement here, the BSF said its stand on demarcation of the border was clear that "since the transfer of adverse possession land is connected with demarcation of the complete border of India and Bangladesh, and the matter is pending with both the Governments, it is not justified on the part of BDR to try to change the status of the area unilaterally with the use of force. "Neither BSF nor BDR should try to forcibly change the status of the border and this matter should be entirely left to the respective governments," it said. The BSF said it was "absolutely wrong" for the BDR to "use the so-called road as an alibi for their adventure in Pyrdiwah." A company commander-level flag meeting to resolve the issue was held on March 31 where facts were explained to the BDR side and "the matter was amicably settled and BDR did not raise any further objections" it added. BSF Headquarters, Comman-dant, RC Silkoti told PTI here from Shillong that the last rites would be performed with full honours. The next of kin of the jawan had been informed and they were likely to be present during the cremation, Silkoti said. Asked why the next of kin of the 16 killed BSF personnel were not brought by special aircraft for their last rites, he said, "There was no such provision in the BSF." Meanwhile, the two injured BSF jawans, who were handed over to senior BSF officials by the BDR at Mahendragunj in Meghalaya on Sunday and brought to Tura the night, were now undergoing treatment at the 118 battation hospital. More stress was being laid on inured jawans Akshay Kumar and Bimal Kumar's treatment and on their comfort than on their questioning for information on the questioning for information on the methods of torture used by the BDR leading to their injury and killing of their 16 colleagues or the events leading to the incident on the Assam-Bangladesh border on Wednesday last, Silkoti added.
