BJP chief accused of misusing relief fund

AIZAWL, March 10: Senior BJP leaders of Mizoram have alleged that the State unit chief Ramtiama has misused Rs 1.2 lakh of the 'Gujarat relief fund' collected by the party workers, reports PTI. In a letter to the president of the BJP, Bangaru Laxman yesterday four top leaders of the State unit alleged that the total amount collected for Gujarat relief had not reached the BJP government of that State. "Our unit president Ramtiama is unable to provide any details about the donations collected, or the action he has taken to benefit the intended beneficiaries, "the letter, which was faxed to the BJP headquarters in New Delhi said. The leaders also informed Laxman that Ramtiama was involved in an act of criminal intimidation towards Francis Lawmkima, one of the vice-presidents of the unit on the night of March 3. Lawmkima was compelled to submit a complaint at the Kulikawn police outpost against the unit chief. 'His activities have completely erased the party's credibility among the people', the letter alleged. He was also alleged to have tried to blackmail a local prominent businessman and worked hand-in-glove with the Congress party leaders in Mizoram and neighbouring Assam. The leaders urged Laxman to personally intervene in the matter.
