DIMAPUR, Jan 31 ? The Bharatiya Janata Party Nagaland unit in a bid to bring an end to the reign of the SC Jamir led Congress government has hooked up with three other political parties to form an alliance. If all goes well, the forthcoming elections would see Nagaland People?s Front (NPF), Samata Party, Janata Dal United and BJP jointly take on the Congress. This was disclosed by the BJP national vice-president Pyarelal Khandelwal at a press conference at the Kuda Guest House, here recently.?The decision was reached at a joint meeting of the BJP with its three would be allies.
In keeping with the BJP?s wishes the alliance which would take on the Congress is being formed on the Common Minimum Programme, informed Khandelwal while adding that the Naga people, fed up with the corrupt rule of the Congress government, were looking forward to a new government and the new alliance had been formed in keeping with their wants. Harping on the achievements of the BJP at the Centre, Khandelwal asserted that the recently concluded peace talks between the Centre and the NSCN-IM leaders had convinced the people of Nagaland of the genuine concern of the Vajpayee government for the peaceful settlement of the protracted Naga problem.
Slinging mud at the SC Jamir led Congress government; the BJP vice-president stated that the recent resignations from the Congress party were prompted by the futility of the Congress rule and the knowledge that it was not going to return to power after the elections. ?Those who are honest and dedicated have no place in Congress?, he observed. And the most recent case of jumping the Congress ship has come in the form of MLA T.A. Ngullie who, going against the recent trend of joining the NPF has opted for the BJP. ?I was working as a bonded labourer in Congress?, was what Ngullie had to say on being queried about his decision. Disillusioned with the hopelessness of the Congress, the developments and progress initiated by BJP had influenced him, Ngullie added.
