Body of abducted coal official recovered

TINSUKIA, Jan 10: The dead body of North Eastern Coal Fields official, Pabitra Hazari, who was kidnapped by the NSCN(K) militants on Tuesday, was recovered this morning by the police inside the jungle. Hazari was kidnapped from the Malowpahar area while he was returning after inspecting the work at Tikok open cast mine.

Police got the information about his body at about 10 pm yesterday through the gaonburah of Malowpahar village. A note, signed by Commandant Salvati, where it was written that ‘this is the consequence of dealing,’ was recovered. His body bore bullet injuries behind his head. Police believe Hazari was killed on the very day he was kidnapped. Hazari (40) hailed from Dibrugarh.

Our Dibrugarh Bureau adds: A pall of gloom set on the city as news spread that the NSCN(K) murdered Pabitra Hazari. The entire southern localities of the city, including Milannagar, Nirmaligaon, Mancotta and Jiban Phukan Nagar observed a spontaneous bandh today to mourn the death and protest the killing by Naga insurgents.

Hazari did his schooling here and did his graduation from the Cotton College, before completing his M Tech in geology from the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad. His funeral took place in the city late in the evening.
