Catholic schools urged to reopen in Manipur

IMPHAL, April 18: The MSF has flayed the decision of the Catholic school authorities to close down the schools just because they were receiving monetary demands from militants. The more than 15,000 students of Catholic schools were admitted after the school authorities took full responsibility and they cannot be discarded just because the authorities were facing some problems, the students body said. Stating that the school authorities cannot use the students as their shields, a statement of the MSF said it will stand for rights of the students. Making a fervent appeal to all underground organisations not to press huge monetary demands to the education sector including the MSF cited one reason for the increase in school fees to the huge monetary demands. The students suffer in the end, it added. The MSF also has urged the Catholic schools not to charge huge fees from the students and said education should not be turned into a business. Meanwhile, a joint meeting of parents, teachers and management of the Little Flowers School held today in the school has appealed to the authorities concerned to allow reopening of the school from April 24. A statement issued by the secretary of the Little Flowers School Parents Association said today's meeting took stock of the changed situation arising out of the order of the state government for reopening the schools now closed down and the demand for reopening of the schools from various sections of the society. While reaffirming the desire to continue negotiation with all concerned for an amicable solution the meeting appeals for allowing reopening of the schools.
