NEW DELHI, April 11? The Ministry of Commerce has cleared an Assam Industrial Development Corporation (AIDC) sponsored proposal for setting up a multi-crore Agriculture Export Processing Zone (AEPZ). The proposed project would be set up at Balipara in Sonitpur district. The chairman of AIDC said that the APEDA conveyed its decision here yesterday and the Corporation was in the process of commissioning a Project Report. The Project Report is to be prepared an estimated cost of Rs 25 lakh, he added. The project would be first of its kind in the North-East, where farmers from all-over the Region can bring their produce for export. The AEPZ would have all the facilities including cold storage, container depots besides other requirements needed for export.
