Chaoba against any move to topple PF govt

IMPHAL, March 25: Newly elected president of an MSCP faction, T Chaoba today asserted that his party will not embark upon any move to dislodge the Samata Party led People's Front Government keeping in mind the abysmal financial condition of the State. Addressing newsmen today, Chaoba said that the Samata Party and BJP which are partners in the coalition Government should not try to engineer splits in regional parties particularly the MSCP. Drawing examples from the Centre, Chaoba said the coalition partners in the NDA Government do not try to engineer splits and defection amongst the ruling partners. Likewise the national parties, Samata Party and the BJP should not try to engineer defections from the regional parties here, as it would plunge the State into another round of political instability. He said the MLAs and political partners of the coalition Government should work for the interest of the State and not merely for their own selfish gains. The veteran political leader further said the days of one party rule is over and added that coalition Governments have come to stay for the time being. Sounding an implicit warning Chaoba said that there is no dearth of good leadership in the MSCP. The Samata Party is heading the People's Front Government according to the political demands of the day, the Union Minister said. Taking abroad swipe at the Nipamacha led group, Chaoba said Nipamacha and five others have been expelled from the MSCP and the Speaker have declared them as unattached members in the Assembly. There is no way they can try to assume charge of the MSCP office, he said. The MSCP office is still kept under lock following the eruption of differences between the Nipamacha group and Chaoba faction. He further said the convention of the MSCP scheduled to be held on March 28 at GM hall has been postponed to the first week of April due to, the inclement weather and the crisis gripping the NDA Government at the Centre. Moreover a meeting of the NDA has also been convened. To augment the MSCP a central committee would be constituted. One person from the, hill districts would be appointed as vice presidents, he said.
