HAFLONG, May 16 ? Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi alongwith DG(P), Home Commissioner, Commissioner, Hills and Barak valley etc visited Haflong, the district headquarter of North Cachar Hills, which has witnessed killing of several innocent, burning of houses etc due to recent ethnic clash between the Dimasa and Hmar today.
To console both the bereaved family of Normendu Langthasa and Lienzaova Toulour, who were killed by unidentified gunmen on May 12, Gogoi visted both the places of Langthasa and Toulour and shared sorrows with the families. The Chief Minister held a meeting with the Chief Executive and all the Executive Members of NC Hills Autonomous Council and discussed about the relief and rehabilitation. The CEM, demanding safety and security to the people of NC Hills and Cachar, deployment of enough security personnels and more police outpost in vulnerable areas, gearing up of law and order machinery, provision of sufficient fund for relief and rehabilitation of the riot victims, judicial enquiry commission not below the rank of District/High Court Judge, safety in transportation and railway, punishment to the culprits, fund for development and improvement of road communication, has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister also held a meeting on law and order with Army, CRPF and high police officials. He stressed the need of channelisation of information, early booking of culprits watch over on strangers and coordination among the security forces. While talking to waiting pressmen, Gogoi disclosed that proper security to both the Hmar and Dimasa community is to be provided equally. Judicial enquiry as demanded is also to be ordered. Proper relief and rehabilitation to the victims of the ethnic strife is also ensured by Gogoi. Answering queries, he said that a peace committee would be formed to install confidence on both the communities. Lastly, he assured that the security forces would be strengthened as early as possible.
