DIBRUGARH, Feb 1 ?Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today laid the foundation stone of the highly ambitious Project HOPE (Hospital of People?s Expectations) at the Assam Medical College here this afternoon. The Centrally funded project has the potential to change the infrastructure scenario at the Assam Medical College. New Delhi has already committed Rs 20 crore to get the project going.
In his brief address on the occasion, the Chief Minister said he would like to see the Assam Medical College see its glorious days once again, and called for time-bound completion of the project?s work. The work includes new buildings for the medicine and surgery wards, and more wards would be taken up once the current works are completed.
It is learnt that the Prime Minister?s Office is directly involved in Project HOPE here. He then laid the foundation stone of a new boys? hosted building, to be constructed with Rs 1 crore grant. This hostel will house 300 students, and will replace the old boys? hostel.
Chief Minister Gogoi also inaugurated the newly building complex of the Institute of Communicable Diseases at the AMC campus here today. The institute complex is also a Centrally-funded project, through the North Eastern Council. The other building he dedicated to the service of the patients today was a Rs 11 lakh building to temporarily house the surgery ward.
Earlier this morning, the Chief Minister formally inaugurated the Jokai Botanical Park and Germplasm Research Centre, located in the Jokai reserved forest. He them inaugurated a grand fair at the Chowkidinghee grounds here, which comprises a Kisan Mela, a Gramin Mela and a Health Mela.
