IMPHAL, February 2: Some bigwigs from the ruling parties in the Centre are scheduled to arrive in Imphal adding fuel to the speculation that the ongoing political tussle at home is about to take a new turn, according to a reliable source. According to the source, on Sunday (February 4), the MSCP, working president, T Chaoba, will arrive in Imphal while the Samata Party president, Jaya Jaitley and BJP national secretary, in charge of the Northeast, PB Acharya, will be landing in Imphal the next day. Although Jaya Jaitley is coming to attend the shradha ceremony of the state unit president of her party, Wangkhem Basantakumar, the co-incidence of the three coming together on the same day has raised speculations. It may be recalled that amidst the intense struggle for power between the Opposition and the Ruling, which has thrown the state Assembly totally out of gear, a rift between the supporters of the president of the ruling MSCP, Chief Minister Wahengbam Nipamacha, and the party's working president, Union minister Of state for food processing, T Chaoba had become open. According to the source, fearing that the arrival of T Chaoba will herald fresh tremors in the ruling MSCP, the Chief Minister Wahengbam Nipamacha has since yesterday tightened the vigil over the camp he is holding. The Chief Minister has also cancelled his New Delhi, trip on the invitation of the Union home minister, LK Advani, indefinitely following the new development, according to the source. He has also summoned all ministers who have been allowed to stay away from the camp in his official bungalow to return. The source also said that there arc speculations that the central NDA leaders together with T Chaoba may make another attempt to oust the Nipamacha government and install a new government while they are here. Meanwhile, because of the intensification of the political tussle, the state government has been left with little time or inclination to pursue the salary matters with the Centre, and in all likelihood, payment of January salaries may be possible only in March, according to the source.
