GUWAHATI, Aug 16 ? Several organistations of the State including political parties as well as the Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi, have vehemently condemned the blast at Dhemaji by the proscribed ULFA on Independence Day that took the lives of 14 innocent people including women and children. The organisations include the APCC, CPI, BJP, TMPK and SFI, among others. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today described the Dhemaji incident as a dastardly act. While addressing a condolence meeting at the Janata Bhawan auditorium here, he said that the perpetrators of the act were, in fact, not for restoration of peace in the State.
He called upon the people to offer strong resistance to such terrorist violence. He apprised the gathering of the Ministers, officers and staff that the entire State mourned the incident today and tomorrow the school children would take out peace marches, to be followed by protest meetings by the senior citizens, freedom fighters and intellectuals on August 18.
Meanwhile, the President of India, APJ Abdul Kalam and Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh have also condemned the Dhemaji incident, the CM informed the gathering. The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Bhubaneswar Kalita has condemned the ?cruel? killing of innocent children and women at Dhemaji.
The State council of the Communist Party of India has strongly condemned the acts of bomb blasting at Dhemaji and Dhakuakhana. The State unit of the BJP has appealed to the people to light a lamp tomorrow evening praying for eternal peace of the souls of those killed. The Takam Mising Porin Kebang, SFI State unit, MASS, Assam Pradesh Samata Party, State Nationalist Trinamool Congress, Bharatiya Janata Yuba Morcha and Assam Industrial Development Corporation Ltd have also strongly condemned the incident.
