Cong move to strengthen party in Meghalaya

TURA, February 26: The Congress I in Meghalaya, led by former Chief Minister Salseng C Marak, has expressed its unhappiness over the functioning of the present UDP-NCP-BJP government in the State. The Opposition Congress has now decided to constitute an Economic Affairs Committee (EAC) under the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) to look into the problems faced by the common people. This was disclosed by Marak at Tura on Friday morning while addressing party workers at the Congress Bhawan. Marak is on a three-day tour of the entire Garo Hills, except the plain belt areas of West Garo Hills. SC Marak said that preparations are in full swing to ensure "complete" victory for the Congress in the 2003 State Assembly elections. He said that this year, the party would focus on reactivating and reorganising the party at the grassroots level. The party, next year would focus on the selection of candidates from each block level and on campaigning. To further strengthen the party organisation, Marak would personally oversee the activities. He also informed that unlike earlier years, this year too selection of candidates for party tickets from each constituency would be done only on the recommendations of the Block Congress Committees concerned.
