Cong to continue support to Khonglam ministry

SHILLONG, March 22 ? The Congress Legislature Party of Meghalaya today unanimously decided to continue with their support to the Khonglam ministry and ensure stability and proper functioning of the government, reports PTI. All the 16 legislators including, associate member Augustine D Marak, after a marathon meeting of CLP last night decided to continue their support to the four-month-old People?s Forum of Meghalaya headed by Dr FA Khonglam. The meeting was held at MPCC president SC Marak?s residence on his return from New Delhi. The decision was taken despite the fact that seven of their ministers were axed to accommodate nine newly-inducted ministers from UDP after the Congress had given indications earlier that it might withdraw support to the PFM. CLP leader of the party DD Lapang said in the backdrop of the party?s commitment to the NCP to assist a stable government in the State, ?We had sunk our differences.? Lapang said Congress legislators would not make an issue of their being dropped from the ministry as Congress was not only a party but also a movement with vision and had a mission for sacrifice. He said the AICC had left it to the CLP to decide whether to continue with their support to the Khonglam government or not. He ruled out any possibility of compromise for the Rajya Sabha seat in the State. ?The High Command has directed us to set up a candidate on principal and we are to abide by it.? The Congress has nominated its sitting RS member OL Nongtudu as against Robert Kharsiingh, NCP president and PFM candidate.
