Kohima, Jan. 19: The Nagaland People?s Front (NPF), which leads the ruling Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN), has decided to go in for consensus on candidates for the forthcoming elections to both Houses of Parliament.
At a marathon meeting held over two days, the party decided to resolve the question on parliamentary elections through parleys within the ruling coalition. ?We have agreed to a consensus,? said NPF leader and finance minister K. Therie. Earlier, the municipal elections in the state had caused bad blood between the NPF and the BJP.
Sources in the BJP had said earlier that the NPF was likely to put up the Lok Sabha candidate. The party has shortlisted the names of former state unit president N. Rhetso and former national executive member N.C. Zeliang for the Rajya Sabha. A meeting of the DAN partners was held last week to iron out their differences on the Lok Sabha polls likely to be held either in March or April.
