Corruption case against Lal Thanhawla

AIZAWL, May 20 : Special Judge for Prevention of Corruption Court P Singthanga has denied allegations by the Mizoram People?s Party Youth general headquarters of having been approached by former CM Lal Thanhawla?s representatives, Lalkhama, a retired IAS officer and former CS of Mizoram and his (Singthanga?s) first cousin sister in connection with the corruption case against Lal Thanhawla.

According to the MPCY, Lalkhama and Singthanga?s cousin had met him on April 27, Sunday, between church services. However, the Special Judge denied this and said except for officials concerned with the case, no one has approached him in connection with Hawla?s corruption case.

According to Newslink, Singthanga said, ?This allegation is totally false. No one has approached me regarding Mr Hawla?s case. On the particular Sunday mentioned, I attended church service at our church (Aizawl Town Baptist Church) in the forenoon and, since there is a time lapse of 10 minutes only between services, attended the Sunday school. I had no time to either go home or meet anyone during the particular time mentioned,? Singthanga said.

Refuting the MPCY?s report, Lianzuali, the first cousin Newslink contacted and wife of former health director Dr Thansiama, said she has not contacted her cousin over Hawla?s case nor did she visit her cousin with Lalkhama. When asked whether she has ever visited Lalkhama, Lianzuali said, ?Of course, he is my relative, my maternal uncle. In fact I am going to visit them today to get some vegetables to plant.?

Singthanga?s other cousin, Biakliani, wife of Rosanga Colney, director of the Sericulture department, also denied approaching Singthanga in connection with Hawla?s case. Asked whether she was related to Lianzuali, she said she was a distant relative of hers, but they were not very close. Newslink further said it couldn?t contact the MPCY?s main target Lalkhama, who is presently a general secretary of the Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee, as his telephone was left unanswered. The MPCY in their press release said how much had been offered to the special judge was known only to three persons, referring to Lalkhama, Singthanga and his cousin.?
