Court of Inquiry detects ?some lapses? in Manorama Devi case

IMPHAL, July 28 ? The Court of Inquiry instituted by Assam Rifles for investigating into the custodial death of 30-year-old Th. Manorama Devi has found ?some lapses? by the personnel of the paramilitary force in implementation of instructions issued to them by the Army authorities.

A defence release said today the Court of Inquiry unearthed some lapses on the part of the Assam Rifles personnel regarding the implementation of instructions issued to them by the authorities.

The Court of Inquiry has completed its findings after inquiring into the circumstances that led to the killing of Manorama Devi. However, the allegation regarding rape could be ascertained only after forensic report was received by the Army court from the state authorities, the release said.

It said the Army authorities were committed to bring the case to its logical conclusion at the earliest and take appropriate action against those found guilty.

Curfew relaxed for 13 hours: Meanwhile, indefinite curfew, clamped in various areas of Manipur about a fortnight ago, was relaxed today for 13 hours from 4 a.m. at many parts of the four valley districts in the state. The districts where the curfew was releaxed were Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal and Bishenpur, official sources said.

No untoward incident was reported from any part of the state.
