CPI sets the trend, declares assets of its Manipur MLAs

Imphal, June 08: Setting a trend for other political parties to follow suit and with an aim to project an image of a clean party untainted by corruption and graft charges, the State unit of the CPI has gone ahead and declared the assets and wealth of its MLAs and Ministers. The CPI is a constituent partner of the ruling SPF Government and has five MLAs. The assets of the Ministers and MLAs were announced during a press conference held at Irabot Bhawan today. Save for IFCD Minister N Mangi all the other four CPI MLAs, Ph Parijat, Dr N Nara, M Nabadwip and M Tomba were present at the conference. Speaking to the newsmen, CPI secretary B Sharma said the assets and wealth of the Ministers and MLAs were declared in keeping with the line of the party's election manifesto which pledged to fight corruption and maintain transparency. Moreover the CPI is keen on projecting its distinct identity, the Communist leader said. MoS for IFC Th Tomba said that he did not have to spend a huge amount in the last election. Th Tomba was elected from Kakching constituency. According to the declaration of the assets, Ph Parijat has a kacha house with GI sheets roofing having six rooms with one kitchen, an outhouse (sangoi) with GI sheets-roofing having three rooms, a kacha car garage with GI sheets roofing having three rooms, a dwelling land measuring 1.8 acres in his father's name, paddy field measuring 1.25 acres in his wife's name, another paddy field measuring 1.28 acres in his name, a 1995 model Maruti van in his , name and a motor bike in his son's name. Parijat is the PCS Minister in the SPF Government. The assets of Dr Nara as declared today included 1 house measuring 50 ft by 100 ft with GI sheet roofing standing in his father's name, a clinic foundation measuring 40 ft by 100 ft in his name, one paddy field measuring about 2.48 acres in his father's name, an Ambassador car in his name and a Jeep in his name. Dr Nara is the Arts and Culture Minister. For IFC Minister N Mangi the assets declared included a building at Kumbi Lai Shanthong Leikai standing jointly in his and his wife's name, an uncultivable land which is submerged by the Kumbi pat measuring 2.48 acres in his name, a paddy filed measuring 3.1 acres standing jointly in his and his wife's name, a productive paddy field measuring 1.86 acres standing jointly in his and his wife's name, a garden measuring about .21 acres in his and his wife's name, an Ambassador car in his and his wife's name and a Jeep in his and his wife's name. For MoS for PCS and MAHUD, M Nabadwip the assets declared are a four room building having an area of 12 ft by 14.5 ft with GI sheet roofing and a kitchen measuring 35 ft by 16 ft in his name, an old house with two kacha outhouses in his name, a garden measuring about .22 acres in his name, a paddy field measuring about 1.55 acres standing in his mother's name, a paddy field measuring about .93 acres in his wife's name, a Maruti van in his eldest son's name, a Kinetic Honda in his daughter-in-law's name and a scooter in his name. The assets declared in case of Th Tomba, MoS for IFCD are a building with brick walls having three rooms with GI sheets in his name, a house having three rooms with kacha roofing in his name. Tomba has no motor vehicles or landed properties. His source of income after superannuation as a teacher is about Rs 5000 per month plus the salary of an MLA. This is the first time political leaders have declared their assets.
