IMPHAL, January 30: As part of the commitment given in the 26 point action plan by the Chief Minister to the union Home Minister, Important government offices are now guarded by the CRPF personnel, according to a senior police officer who was talking to this newspaper. CRPF personnel from other districts are being despatched to Imphal to guard the remaining offices. It is stated that after the deployment of CRPF personnel at the major government offices, unauthorised persons are not allowed to enter the offices. Even the bonafide employees who do not produce their identity cards or the photographs, which do not resemble their faces, are denied entry. As a result of this restrictions other unwanted elements cannot enter the office to harass the officials. It has been a practice for people, connected with underground organisations to harass the officials to corner lucrative contract works or collect money every month from the employees. Now old Secretariat, new Secretariat, PWD, Industries Directorate, DIC, and School Education Directorate are being guarded by CRPF. Sources said that steps have been taken to post CRPF guards at Electricity Deptt, Veterinary and Animal Husbandary office, Forest and Agriculture Deptts, Medical Directorate and the PWD Stores at Chingmeirong. Security is so tight that even high ranking civil and police officers in uniform are not allowed to enter their offices unless they produce identity cards.
