Dagaon steel plant victim of Govt apathy since 1997

GORESWAR, June 4 – The proposed steel plant commissioned in 1997 at Dagaon village of Kamalpur LAC falling under Rangiya sub-division, is now lying in an incomplete state due to undue delay of the authorities concerned as well as the State Government. It may be noted that the proposed steel plant had the enough potential to boost the development process and employment opportunity among the unemployed educated youths of the vast area of Kamalpur LAC including the Rangiya sub-division area.

The Union Government had agreed to provide financial assistance for carrying out the project way back in 1997 during the tenure of the then Union Steel and Mines Minister, Birendra Prasad Baishya who had laid the foundation stone of the project jointly with Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta. Besides, there is serious move of the Central Government and the State Government to develop the North East, and the Union Finance Minister has also announced several fiscal policies along with a package of incentives, yet this project could not develop furthermore than its initial state.

An on-the-spot verification has revealed that various construction materials like pipes, trusses, joists and ceiling laths are gathering rust on the ground in the project’s campus. The public have urged the Rangiya LAC MLA and State Industry Minister Bhubaneswar Kalita, to take up the issue with the authorities concerned (i.e. SAIL) in the greater interest of the socio-economic development of the people of Rangiya sub-division.
