Kohima, March 5: On the first anniversary of the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) government?s being in power, state BJP leader Hokishe Sema called for resolution of the Naga political problem within the lifetime of this generation of leaders.
Defining the fine line between independence and sovereignty, the former chief minister asked the Naga people to show that they were sovereign. He said various overground and underground organisations were working sincerely and the government of India had the desire to solve the problem.
This is the second time in two years that Sema addressed a gathering. He had spoken in the Assembly last year. All through the year, the octogenarian leader has been facing health problems and undergoing treatment in Delhi. All and sundry were present at the banquet hall of the chief minister?s residence today for the anniversary celebrations. A booklet, One glorious year of DAN government, was also distributed.
Home minister and BJP leader T.M. Lotha said the DAN government?s achievements were reflected in a 20 per cent drop in the crime rate, even as factional killings and extortion cases had come down.?Much progress has been made in bringing about unity among the (rebel) groups and we are hopeful of an honourable and acceptable solution soon,? he said.
Speaking in line with ?Bharat Uday?, planning minister Sh?rhozelie said ?Nagaland will shine in all fields? with commitment of the bureaucracy and co-operation of the people.
Most of the achievements, though, revolved around the economic package from Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee last October and all the speakers thanked the NDA government. Rio said the polls are coming and his government would not allow violation of rules.
