Dimapur, Nov. 30: The entire Opposition in Nagaland has accused the S.C. Jamir-led Congress government in the state of not being transparent on the issue of delimitation of constituencies.
The Nagaland unit of the BJP, holding the state government responsible for the present crisis, termed the categorisation of ?plains Nagas? and ?hill Nagas? as a ?move to sell off the birthright of the people?.
The Nagaland People?s Front condemned the decision for rearrangement of the Assembly seats in the state. It accused the Jamir government of keeping the people and political parties in the dark on the delimitation proposal.
It alleged that the Congress has been secretive on the issue ?to manipulate the constituencies?. The party also rebuffed at the Cabinet meeting on delimitation and alleged that the chief minister called the all-party discussion on November 19 ?to share the rotten bag of potatoes?.
The NPF asked why the issue was not taken up for discussion in the House when it was in session on September 24 and September 26. The proposal for allocation of constituencies was taken up on September 23 following suggestions from the chief electoral officer of the state.
The party blamed chief minister Jamir for the present turmoil as he heads the state election department. The NPF urged the delimitation commission to consider the representations submitted by the affected people and deliver justice.
The BJP reaffirmed its demand for intensive electoral revisions in Nagaland ?as serious anomalies were detected in the present electoral rolls?. The party urged officials of the Election Commission to visit the state and assess the ground realities for an acceptable electoral revision before the forthcoming elections.
