GUWAHATI, Feb 15 ? Imagine a person living without drinking water for the last 13 years. Believe it or not the feat has been claimed. It seems strange, but 80-year old Dr Robindra Mohan Dasgupta of Dimapur is said to have been going without water since 1990 to prove that ?nothing is impossible in the world.?
His food include all common veg and non-veg items that are prevalent in the region and within his clan, minus mutton. An LMP doctor from Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh, Dr Dasgupta stopped practising in 1994. He is the owner of Medical Hall in Dimapur. His daily chores include reading newspaper and a few strolls. But his chief daily routine is a three-hour meditation in sleeping posture under a tree and half-an-hour silent bath, through which Dr Dasgupta ?makes contact with the divine power.?
His food schedule includes breakfast, lunch but no dinner, except an occasional snacks once in a while. On repeated quires from this reporter about Dr Dasgupta?s liquid habits including soups, fruit juice and liquid dals, his son Golap Dasgupta, who informed the paper about his father?s ?unique feat?, answered in the negative emphasing that his father drinks just a single cup of tea a day.
Asked about the bizarre trait of Dr Dasgupta, a few doctors in Guwahati informed this reporter that ?it?s obligatory for a normal adult to make 500 ml of water output, either through sweat or urine or through both. ?In fact a major portion of a person?s body weight consists of water,? one medicine doctor said, adding, when the physical activity is minimum a person requires less water which can be supplemented by liquid foods including dal, tea, milk, coffee, soup, fruit juice etc.
