Dimaraji village headmen support talks with Centre on statehood

DIMAPUR, Dec 29 — In what can be considered as a crucial and significant move, the Dimaraji Khunang Hosom (Dimaraji Gaonbura Union) has resolved to support peace talks and welcomed the possibilities of a ceasefire agreement between the Dima Halom Daoga (DHD) and the Government of India so as to facilitate a peaceful solution to the issue of attainment of proposed Dimaraji statehood. The resolution along with other resolutions was unanimously adopted during the subject meeting of the Hosom’s general meeting at the Dhansiri government high school, on December 27. The meeting of the gaonburas of the Dimabong Holali or Eastern Dimaraji Region came in the wake of DHD’s move for peace talks with the Centre. The DKH made its stand clear on the issue of supporting the peaceful struggle of DHD by passing the resolution to support poster campaigns, peace rallies at Diphu, graffiti etc. which are considered as tools of any peaceful movement. In a bid to broaden its area of jurisdiction, the DKH also resolved to form its branch committees. Moreover, the house has resolved to promote and sustain the Dimasa tradition and culture in every village of Dimaraji and also to maintain cordial relations with other communities inhabiting different parts of the Dimaraji region. The meeting presided over by DKH president Nimson Sing Jigdungsa, was attended by respective headmen of the villages within Dimaraji, the presidents and secretaries of the Dimaraji Mohila Samaj and All Dimasa Students’ Union (ADSU) Karbi Anglong district. The meeting was part of the Daylong Convention of the DKH, which was conducted in a jam-packed Dhansiri Indoor Stadium. The chairman of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council George Milik along with Bhupen Hasnu, executive member, also attended the Convention during which the resolutions earlier adopted at the subject meeting were read out for the general masses. The Convention started with the introduction of the gaonburas and various delegates and invocation by the Jonthai Ma (senior priest) of Difua Daikho.
